11x14 Custom Hand-Cut Silhouettes of Elizabeth and Virginia by Silhouette Artist Kathryn Flocken

Susan J. of Fayetville, GA wanted to know if I could do an order for her with multiple pieces, all in different sizes. Of course I was more than happy to oblige! We were having a rather large "rain event" here in Florida, so I was more than happy to do a big chunk of work while stuck in the house anyway.

Basically, Susan wanted her daughters to be showcased as the largest pieces, then have three girls doing several activities as the medium sized pieces, and two little birds as the tiniest pieces.

I suggested we do her daughters as 11x14's. The girls as 8x10's, and the birds as 5x7. She seemed to like the idea, so we went forward with the order.

The little hand-cut birds were oh-so sweet, and were 5x7 inches each in size.

Wedding Silhouettes. A Custom Order.

Kerry K. of Talahassee, FL wanted to have some custom wedding Silhouettes made for her daughter and son-in-law's first wedding anniversary. Kerry sent over three photos for me to look at and see what I could do.

She wanted both pieces to be 8x10's.
I really liked this photo a lot, I just wanted to make some small adjustments to make it translate better in silhouetted form. I simply made her lips closed, and raised the flowers a little. Kerry was very proud, and told me she took this photo of her daughter herself!

I also liked this photo as well, and Kerry especially wanted to have this one made into a hand-cut silhouette. Again, a few small changes were needed. Since the Bride's nose was covered by the Groom's nose, I simply moved her back a little, and made their noses touch.

I had fun playing with the positive and negative shapes, and adding in details like the pearl neclace.

Silhouette Restoration

Doug McQ. of Apopka, FL brought in this Silhouette that was made of his wife Lynn-Dee when she was just 4 years old. He was hoping I might be able to make a nice restoration of it, as it was literally crumbling apart.

Doug brought in the original cutting (a tiny thing, maybe 2x3 inches mounted on a 5x7 inch card) plus this scanned photocopy for me to work from.

I cut it for him there on the spot, trying my best to replicate the hand that originally made the Silhouette. The original work was created in 1950, and signed by an artist named LaBoche. If anyone knows anything about the artist in question, do let me know!

Silhouettes at Weddings

I just love weddings! Cutting silhouettes at weddings, to me, is a big honor. I always keep in mind that these sweet images will be kept for a lifetime. This lovely couple held their wedding reception at Narcoossee's Restaurant at the Grand Floridian on Walt Disney World property.

It was a great day, and I cut about 65 Silhouettes or so in 3 hours. These folks were all military, so they knew how to line up! What an organized bunch!

She would simultaneously cut two silhouettes, so the guest would get one (in a 5x7 card) and she saved one for us. So...whenever I get around to scrapbooking, I have silhouettes of all our guests!

Sonogram Silhouette

I often get asked, "Do you do baby Silhouettes? What's the youngest person you've ever done?" When I tell people I've even worked from ultrasounds, they feel a lot better about my capabilities to have their "Wiggly Kid" sit in my chair!

So, I was thrilled to get yet another opportunity to make a Silhouette from a sonogram. This time, however, I asked the Mom-to-be if I could borrow the picture to scan, and put the photo plus the Silhouette up on my blog.

Patty and Richard C. are 12 weeks along, and this is their Baby, and the Silhouette made from the ultrasound! Congrats!

You can have your child's sonogram made into a silhouette. You will get your choice of 8x10 background in either pink, blue, soft green, or soft yellow.

Move Over, Tupperware!

Lisa B. of Orlando saw me cutting Silhouettes recently and asked for my card. She had remembered me from a book signing at Barnes & Noble book store on Colonial and Bumby years ago when my book came out. She said she was going to contact me with a really "cool" idea.

Soon after, Lisa sent me an email and asked if I might be interested in doing a party where she'd gather the people together in her home on a specific date, and they would purchase Silhouettes, frames and merchandise from me directly on the spot.

I decided why not! It was something different, close to home, and would only take about three hours. So, we set a date. A few weeks later, I went to Lisa's home and set up my Silhouette goodies on Lisa's dining room table. Lisa had gathered about 15 families together, and they all took numbers and hung out in the back yard while waiting for their turn in line.

This family used a musical card to entertain their daughter while I cut her Silhouette.

"Weeeeee! This is much better than waiting in a long, hot line at a theme park to get my Silhouette done!"

So, there were Silhouettes, food, and lots to drink for all. The kids got to play, and the parents had some time to relax and have a glass of wine with their pizza.

If you live within a 90 mile radius of East Orlando and would like to host a Silhouette a party like this at your home, email me! All you have to do is gather about 15 families, and we'll coordinate a day for me to come by and have everyone's Silhouette made.
